What's the difference between ...
- BEng / BSc Software Engineering
- BSc Computer Science
- BSc Computing
- BSc Computing with Digital Media
- BSc Computing with Games Development
- BSc Web Computing
- BSc Business Computing
- BSc Business Information Systems
- BSc Business Information Technology
BEng (Hons) Software Engineering and BSc (Hons) Software Engineering employ the latest technologies and programming languages to develop a sound theoretical understanding and in-depth practical experience of designing, constructing and modifying a wide range of software systems and managing large software projects.
Whilst the BEng and BSc programmes are substantially similar, the BEng programme aims to prepare the student for becoming a chartered professional software engineer. As such it is more rigorous and consequently allows fewer options choices for elective courses.
BSc (Hons) Computer Science provides a solid background in computing and helps to understand the Science underpinning Computing and how computer systems are developed, by including training in how to design and build computer systems, networks and databases.
BSc (Hons) Computing is a broad programme providing a flexible learning experience and allowing the student to experience a wide variety of subject material in diverse areas such as multimedia, information systems and business-oriented computing without committing themselves to a specialisation.
BSc (Hons) Computing with Digital Media helps to understand the fundamentals of software development, computer systems and multimedia development. It also develops skills in related technologies such as user interfaces, graphics and audio-visual production techniques.
BSc (Hons) Computing with Games Development helps to understand the fundamentals of games development and the production of game media elements. It also develops skills in related technologies such as animation, virtual reality and audio-visual production techniques.
BSc (Hons) Web Computing is a variant of Computing, focusing on Internet systems. Students can select course modules in various internet related areas such as multimedia, networking, e-commerce, security, mobile computing and business-oriented computing.
BSc (Hons) Business Computing deploys computing systems at an enterprise level and provides a good understanding of modern business organizations, structures and business functions and the role that computing and computing and information systems play in them.
Business Information Systems concentrates on the analysis, design and building of information systems, whereas Business Information Technology concentrates on the technology needed to acquire, process and distribute information. Both, however, are very much designed with the business aspects of computing in mind.
