This degree programme seeks to develop IT skills and their application to business organisations. It's a practically based degree covering both technical and theoretical issues.
Students learn how to:
- Build applications for the Internet;
- Use industry wide commercial software;
- Develop solutions to business problems;
- Learn how to use IT tools and techniques;
- Model different business situations;
- Apply modern principles of design and analysis;

For students who choose a sandwich degree, the third year is spent in industry or business on a fully paid work placement, which we help to arrange.

Specifics
Professional recognition
This degree has full CITP accreditation from BCS - the Chartered Institute for IT, the body responsible for establishing and maintaining technical and ethical standards in the computing profession. This means that on successful graduation from this degree, you will have fulfilled the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered IT Professional (CITP). However, please note that there are additional requirements, including work experience, to achieve full Chartered status - see the BCS website for further information.
Career opportunities
Career opportunities exist as business analysts, systems designers, database developers, database administrators, and web site developers in a wide range of organisations. In addition, graduates of the programme may find career opportunities in information systems security, I.T. management roles and network service administrators.
