Biography
I have worked in the area of online human behaviour for nine years, investigating the usability and impact of websites as well as uses of the information that they collect. This has recently included an investigation into the potential of Twitter to detect disease outbreaks such as Swine Flu that has shown that user activity on twitter can predict an outbreak up to one week faster than traditional methods. This research has received international press coverage e.g. the Telegraph, the Times of India and been presented at a number of international conferences. I am currently a Principal Lecturer in the School of Computing & Mathematical Sciences at the University of Greenwich and the Web 2.0 Research Group Leader at the eCentre.

I have previously been involved in a number of successful EU funded projects as a researcher at City University, London and have a PhD in Computer Science from Keele University.
