Prospective Students :: Taster Courses

Since 2006, the School of Computing & Mathematical Sciences has run a series of free taster courses to give prospective undergraduate students the chance to experience a day in the university environment (these are in addition to the Open Days).

We are planning more events for next year, but the details below give an idea of what was on offer and some of the student feedback.

Courses:

Lights, cameras, ACTION - a film/TV production
Wednesday 7th July, 2010
A one day taster course in Film and TV Production - a short hands on introduction to making films and TV programmes. During the day you will work in a team to devise an idea for a short narrative sequence, after you have learnt some basic camera skills, you will shoot the footage and after a brief overview of very basic editing techniques in our Apple Mac suite you will edit your shots into a sequence and add music/sound to give your piece atmosphere. It may not be a block buster but it will be a fun start!

Student feedback
Which aspect(s) of the Taster Course were you most impressed with?:
"The guidance from the staff, the quality of the equipment and software"

"Equipment available and knowledge of the staff. Also locations available"

What did you like most about the course?:
"The fact that we were allowed to do our own thing rather than being told what to do"
