What's the difference between ...

Business Intelligence is one of our latest programmes. The courses within this programme look at different aspects involved in software designing, construction, analysis, evaluation and reporting within Business Intelligence Systems. The programme has an emphasis on theories as well as practical work. Most of the courses taken on this programme require prior knowledge in databases and/or programming.

Computing gives access to an almost completely free choice of courses for people with a first degree in some numerate discipline, but who want the freedom to mix and match their courses according to their background, experience and interests. Some courses do have prerequisites which must be satisfied (check by speaking to the lecturer).

Computer Science is one of our latest programmes in the area of computing. This programme provides a mix of theoretical foundation and practical application in a number of computer science disciplines, such as software systems, high performance computing, artificial intelligence and algorithms. The core courses are complement with options from a wide range of subjects, some of which require pre-requisite knowledge. Some programming knowledge is expected.

Software Engineering is intended for students with a degree in information systems, maths, science or engineering who want to go deeper into computing, specialising in software engineering. It focuses on the design, architecture and implementation of distributed systems and includes various additional computing options such as networking, databases, E-Business, etc.

Enterprise Software Engineering has an emphasis on the development of enterprise level systems. It focuses on the design and architecture of enterprise systems and the management of the software engineering process. Programming ability is essential.

Web Technology concentrates on the technologies used in the specification, design, development and deployment of web-based systems. In contrast, Internet Technology & e-Commerce is a specialist programme focussing on the specification, design, development and deployment of web-enabled technologies to support modern e-businesses effectively. It addresses commercial aspects, e-commerce systems and issues. Both require programming skills.
