The formula for calculating the precise moment when the joys of Christmas shopping are outweighed by the irritations is E(t) = A (1 - keat) according to Dr Tony Mann, the head of Mathematics in the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, in a project commissioned by the online retailer Amazon.

CMS Wins European IS Award (Jun 03)

A simulated evacuation

A computer program that helps in the design of safer buildings, aircraft and ships has been honoured by technology experts from across Europe.

The Exodus software by researchers from CMS in the Fire Safety Engineering Group (FSEG) at the University of Greenwich simulates evacuations during emergencies, helping to predict how people would react if they were caught up in a fire.
