"After finishing my Bachelors from UCT I searched in many university brochures looking for a course which would suit my objectives. I have always been interested in Oracle databases since they are the core databases of most big businesses. A natural offshoot of databases is business intelligence which helps with making strategic decisions in any big firm. This was the area I was most interested in. Hence I chose the MSc in Enterprise Systems and Data Warehousing at the University of Greenwich because it covered subjects like Database Tools & Techniques, Data Modelling & Data Warehousing, Internet & Web Technologies, System Planning, Strategy & Management. These courses seemed tailor made for the direction I wanted to go in. Besides all that, the support and infrastructure at Greenwich was very accommodating especially when I was doing my final project. My supervisor provided very competent support for a very complex implementation of Oracle related management servers.
"Currently I am part of the Business Intelligence department at a company called Xchanging, working on a data warehouse for Lloyds. This data warehouse is around 1 terabyte in size and uses all the latest technologies like Netapp filers (Storage Area Networks), Oracle RACs, Sun Solaris host Oss. We are moving to Oracle 10 G and Solaris 10 and I will be heavily involved in this upgrade. Besides the admin and design I am also involved in managing the business Intelligence environments like designing Business Objects Universes and reports. All in all I am in a role that is a most excellent blend of databases and business intelligence which is like bread and butter in the business world.
